Building an Affordable, Thriving Community
We are a far cry from affordable housing in Los Angeles, and we can help with redevelopment, economic development, and improving affordable public services.
Learning from Long Beach's Success
The City of Long Beach did an incredible job in the late 1970's and early 1980's with their downtown redevelopment plan. This brought affordable housing, low interest loans, a mall, new business, and the Long Beach Grand Prix. They also brought in investors removing old single-family units and building new 4 and 6 plex units and affordable town homes.
We should be doing the same — this helps over time to reduce high cost of rents and increases the likelihood of young people buying new homes.
