My Priorities

Community and friends gathering
Community Friends
Homelessness: Hundreds of millions of dollars are being spent with little to no results. I have a new approach that brings dignity and compassion, reduces costs to taxpayers, addresses housing challenges, cleans our streets and freeways, and tackles crime at the same time.
• Job Growth and Opportunity: Expanding opportunities, especially for our youth.
• Gang Reduction: Continuing efforts to reduce gang activity and keep neighborhoods safe.
• Lower Taxes: Working to reduce the tax burden on residents.
• Affordable Housing: Supporting new and affordable housing within Los Angeles.
• Crime Reduction: Enforcing existing laws to keep communities safe.
• Support for First Responders: Standing with the brave men and women of the Los Angeles Police Department and Fire Department.
• Education Reform: Bringing a more responsible approach to education. Many professors have shared concerns that first-year college students are not fully prepared for basic college-level work—we must do better.

Community Safety

We need stronger communities by increasing the number of police officers and firefighters. Unlike Councilwoman Hernandez, I do not support defunding the police. Safe communities are a priority for all residents of Los Angeles.

Back in 2001, I helped introduce surveillance equipment to the LAPD, starting in MacArthur Park. A year later, the Los Angeles Times reported that crime in the area had been reduced by 51%. This is just one example of the creative solutions I bring—not only for District 1 but for the entire city.
